Frequently Asked Questions
Everything most visitors ask us about learning to surf on Nusa Lembongan — seasons, prices, safety and booking. Can't find your answer? Message us on WhatsApp.
When is the best time of year to learn to surf in Nusa Lembongan?
The dry season, May to September, has the most consistent swell and offshore mornings, but Nusa Lembongan has surfable waves year-round.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. You need basic swimming ability to take a surf lesson. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but you must be comfortable in open water — instructors stay within arm’s reach of beginners at all times.
Will I stand up in my first lesson?
Most people stand up and ride their first wave within their first lesson. Nusa Lembongan’s soft, slow-breaking beginner waves and our small groups of no more than three students per instructor make first-day success the norm.
How much do surf lessons cost?
Group lessons start from IDR 500,000 for a 2-hour session including all equipment. Private lessons start from IDR 700,000 and kids lessons from IDR 400,000.
Is there a minimum age for surf lessons?
Kids lessons are designed for ages 6–12. Adult lessons have no age limit — we regularly teach first-time surfers in their 50s and 60s.
What should I bring to my lesson?
Just swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen and drinking water. We provide the surfboard, leash and rash vest, and the boat transfer to the break is included.
Is the reef dangerous? Do I need reef booties?
Beginner lessons run at Playgrounds, where the waves break over deeper water, so reef booties are not essential. Every lesson starts with a safety briefing, and booties are available on request.
How do I book a surf lesson?
The fastest way is WhatsApp — tap any Book button on this site and send us a message. We usually reply within a few hours to confirm your time and meeting point.
How far in advance should I book?
One to two days ahead is usually enough. In the July–August and Christmas peak seasons, book three or more days ahead to get your preferred time.
Where do the lessons happen?
Beginner lessons run at Playgrounds, a beginner-friendly channel wave a short boat ride from Jungut Batu Beach on Nusa Lembongan’s west coast.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your lesson. Inside 24 hours, message us on WhatsApp and we will do our best to move your booking.
How many people are in a group lesson?
Group lessons are capped at three students per instructor, so everyone gets individual feedback on every wave.
