When is the best time of year to learn to surf in Nusa Lembongan?
The dry season, May to September, has the most consistent swell and offshore mornings, but Nusa Lembongan has surfable waves year-round.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. You need basic swimming ability to surf. You do not need to be a strong swimmer, but you must be comfortable in open water — Loxy stays within arm’s reach of beginners at all times.
Will I stand up in my first session?
Most first-timers stand up and ride a wave in their first session. Nusa Lembongan’s soft, slow-breaking beginner waves and Loxy’s one-on-one guidance make first-day success the norm.
How much does a surf session cost?
There are two ways to book the same 2-hour session. A group session is IDR 500,000 per person, in a small group of up to 4 people. A one-on-one private session, with an instructor to yourself the whole time, is IDR 900,000 per person. Both include everything — board, rash vest, booties if you need them, in-water and on-land coaching, and the boat transfer to the break. No hidden extras.
How many people can share a session, and is it priced per person?
Yes — both prices are per person. A group session is IDR 500,000 per person and runs with up to 4 people, so everyone still gets feedback on every wave. If you would rather have an instructor to yourself, a private session is IDR 900,000 per person. Booking for a bigger group? Message us on WhatsApp and we will bring another instructor along.
What is the difference between a group session and a private session?
The session itself is the same — same 2 hours, same breaks, same equipment and boat transfer. In a group session (IDR 500,000 per person) you share your instructor with up to 4 people. In a private session (IDR 900,000 per person) the instructor is yours alone, so every wave gets watched and every ride gets feedback. Beginners who want maximum help, and surfers chasing a specific fix, usually get the most out of private.
Is a session a lesson or surf guiding?
Both — it is the same session either way. Complete beginners get a proper lesson, on the beach and in the water. Surfers who already know their way around a wave get guiding: Loxy or one of his instructors takes you to the right break for the tide and puts you in the best spot, with feedback to sharpen your surfing.
Can experienced surfers book, or is it only for beginners?
Both are welcome. Loxy and his instructors coach first-timers and guide experienced surfers to the breaks and take-off spots that suit the day’s conditions — the session is matched to you, whatever your level.
Is there a minimum age?
Children are welcome with a parent — message Loxy with their age and experience and he will let you know if the conditions suit. Adult sessions have no age limit; Loxy regularly teaches first-time surfers in their 50s and 60s.
What should I bring to my session?
Just swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen and drinking water. Loxy provides the surfboard, leash, rash vest and booties if you need them, and the boat transfer to the break is included.
Is the reef dangerous? Do I need reef booties?
Beginners surf at Playgrounds, where the waves break over deeper water, so the reef is rarely a concern. Every session starts with a safety briefing, and booties are included if you want them.
How do I book a surf session?
The fastest way is WhatsApp — tap any Book button on this site and send a message. Loxy usually replies within a few hours to confirm your time and meeting point.
How far in advance should I book?
One to two days ahead is usually enough. In the July–August and Christmas peak seasons, book three or more days ahead to get your preferred time.
Where do the sessions happen?
Beginners surf at Playgrounds, a beginner-friendly channel wave a short boat ride from Jungut Batu Beach; more experienced surfers head to whichever reef break suits the tide and swell that day.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your session. Inside 24 hours, message us on WhatsApp and we will do our best to move your booking.
Can I stop early if I have had enough?
Of course. The two hours are yours — if you want a rest you can sit in the boat and watch the waves roll in, then jump back out whenever you like.
